  • Merc with a Mouth

So for April Fools wizards decided to release a Deadpool secret lair. I was lucky enough to get my hands on it, and today, I am going to talk about my thoughts on the Deadpool card and cards that work well with him.

Deadpool, Trading Card is a brand new legendary creature with a really unique and special effect. When you cast him, if he isn’t countered before he hits the battlefield, you can select a creature and swap text boxes with it. The really strong thing about this ability is that it doesn’t target, so you can get around hexproof and shroud. Also, Deadpool gets the enter effect of whatever creature he is swapping text boxes with, if it has one. This is really powerful if you use effects that makes copies of Deadpool the copies will die due to the legend rule, but before they do, they will swap their text boxes. So let’s look at some cards that Deadpool can use to make token copies of himself.

Blade of Selves is an equipment you can use to give Deadpool myriad an effect that will create token copies for each opponent. The token copies will swap text boxes with whatever creature you want but then will die to the legend rule. Swapping Deadpool’s text box with your own The Master, Multiplied, or Elturel Survivors will give Deadpool those powerful effects, and with the Master, specifically, the tokens will remain. So, let’s say we do use Deadpool to text swap with our own cards what can we do to get rid of those cards without letting our opponent’s draw?

Viscera Seer, Corrupted Conviction, and Goblin Bombardment are strong sac outlets that let you get rid of your own creatures with negative text boxes. Each of these can be used in different ways to your advantage scrying, drawing cards, and dealing damage are very useful ways of getting rid of them. Also, if you need to reset your main Deadpool you can sacrifice him to these types of effects. Well then, if we are going to be sacrificing our creatures we should have good ways of taking advantage of that.

Mayhem Devil is a strong way to take advantage of sacrificing our creatures by letting us deal 1 damage to any target. This can allow us to pick off pesky creatures or hit planeswalkers. We can even just go to our opponent’s face if we aren’t worried about their board. Zulaport Cutthroat allows us to deal damage to each of our opponents and gain some life this is really good and gives us a buffer for a longer game. Malakir Rebirth is a way to bring our Deadpool back from the graveyard right away we don’t have to send him back to the command zone; we can put him back onto the battlefield and get to text swapping.

    Wrapping Up

Well, these are my thoughts on the new Deadpool, Trading Card. I am really excited to try this out as my commander he looks like a really powerful card, so much so that I think he could become a rakdos removal staple as he can deal with really pesky cards. I am including the decklist I came up with for him and let me know your thoughts. As always peace and rock on!

  • Zell Dincht Thoughts

I am excited to discuss my favorite Final Fantasy 8 character Zell Dincht.

Zell is a new and interesting design space for red impulse ramp he lets you play an extra land from your hand each turn, but you have to return it to your hand in your end step. I think this is really powerful and can be used in fun and interesting ways. I don’t think Zell is a great commander, but I think he will be really powerful in the 99 of decks. Let’s talk about some strong cards we can play with Zell to get max value from his land bounce effect.

Arena of Glory is a powerful land that lets you get creatures out a turn earlier for the drawback of not being able to untap it on your next turn. You can also split the two red mana that is produced to give more than one creature haste. So why am I mentioning this with Zell well, you can exert Arena of Glory for the extra mana and haste, and then at the end of turn, return it to your hand to get around the drawback altogether. This, combined with Zell is a repeatable extra mana and haste every turn.

When Talon Gates of Madara enters, you can phase out a creature. You can pay 4 mana to do this at instant speed on your opponent’s turns, or you can just play it on your turn to phase out a pesky blocker. I am sure you can guess where I am going with this, but with Zell you can return it to your hand and get the effect repeatedly. This is really powerful and can help you push through damage or protect yourself from getting attacked.

The hideaway lands are also a great way to get some use out of Zell’s bounce at end of turn effect. Mosswort, Spinerock, and Windbrisk are the better of the five to combine with our boy Zell getting to cast something for free and then bounce and get a new thing next turn is a really great way to maximize his strengths.

    Wrapping Up

So, to wrap up my thoughts, I think Zell Dincht is a really great new card to add to the 99 of your commander decks. He has a unique design space I hope Wizards uses more often for red impusle ramp. Look for lands with enters effects to get the most out of this new card. I look forward to throwing him into my decks when he comes out let me know what you think of my thoughts.
